Now, I'm not *that* old, but I do remember in the early to mid 1990s when 'quiet' at Crewe meant that there were only 4 or 5 trains in the station. Now in 2000 a 'quiet' period means just that - silence! (except for the sound of rain falling through the gaps in the roof!) The silence was broken at 16:42 by 66073 heading for Manchester with the Crewe re-railing train. |

A
flurry of activity was initiated by 86226 at
16:55, with the arrival of the 12:10 Paignton -
Liverpool Lime Street. |

A short while later, at 17:00, 47788 passed through on the Up Through line with an unidentified service/ecs (well, I couldn't work out what it was!) heading for the Shrewsbury line. |

A few minutes on, and at 17:04 60017 passed through with a welded rail train, heading for Grestley Lane on the Shrewsbury line. |

Class 37 action re-started with the appearance of 37412 on the 1K71 14:55 ex-Holyhead. The train had run into Platform 12, where 37412 uncoupled, and proceeded to run-round the train ready to form the 1D79 17:19 return to Holyhead. |

When the diagrams for the Summer timetable were written, it was hoped that loco haulage would be history, and so this particular diagram is scheduled to depart from the bay Platform 9. 37412 re-attached to the train in Platform 12, and then had to do the bazaar shunting manoeuvre to place the train in Platform 9. All this messing around resulted in a 10 minute late departure. Surely it would have been easier to direct the passengers to Platform 12?! |

A rather damp (but noisy) run to Chester eventually followed, where I jumped to get the last 37 of the day back to BNS. 37412 made another spirited departure, before rounding the curve, and disappearing out of sight. |

The ever-present Riviera Trains 47705 was duly recoded on film at Chester, between the roof supports. |

37429 arrived on the 1G86 16:46 Holyhead - BNS, working the 3rd 37 diagram of the day. A fast run back to BNS finished off an excellent day, and I hoped tomorrow would bring more of the same...... On arrival at BNS (travelling via Sandwell & Duldley), 37429 had to run round the stock. |
A near ex-works 86212 was found waiting for its next duty. |

I waited for 37429 to depart on the 1D57 20:50 BNS - Chester, leaving a few overnight bashers on board. My day finished with a short run back to Birmingham International behind 47827 on the 21:06 BNS - London Paddington. |
